Bugs!

Last week, Gizmodo asked their readers to submit wallpaper-sized pictures of bugs. Today, 294 colorful images of creepy crawlies were posted to galleries on their site: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (bandwidth alert: those pages are very picture-heavy) and also to Flickr, where high-resolution versions can be downloaded. This project is part of their weekly "Shooting Challenge". Each week's results can be seen in individual sets on their Flickr account.

Yeah, no kidding. There's a user here that goes by the name "Millipede" and one day he/she said something I found amusing/interesting so I clicked on the profile. Big mistake. I was still scratching off imaginary millipedes a half hour later. Phobias suck.
Shame though, because if I can muster up the will to look at a detailed photo of a bug they're actually pretty fascinating. I know I'm missing out here. Bugs have got greebles!

I had this epic post prepared about Microsoft's Plot to Undermine Apple's New iPhone Technology With Israeli Hipsters, but figured bugs would be less controversial.

For the bug-phobic, this set was pretty neat: 395 Photos that Prove Cellphones Make Good Cameras :)

Odd that most of the photographers seem to think that the social insects (bees, etc.) they photographed were male ("he," "him," etc.)...

What a cute little puppy!"
Not actually a cute little puppy. It is furry, though.

Are any of these actual heteroptera? There are several arachnids, and even some molluscs. It's almost too much for a joyless pendant to tolerate!
Lepidoptera really are the charismatic megafauna of the insect world though... I'd like to see some cool looking leaf footed bugs get more attention.
