Sorry Fiasco, for the sake of Australia's international reputation I have got to flag this. Please can we keep Bob Katter our dirty little secret?

Eccentric. Heh. You're so polite and understated.

Bigot, sexist, douchebag.

Shit, the guy's almost qualified to be the head of a nationalist party of some kind.

I don't think this counts as "bush poetry." It's tiresome, unimaginatively rhymed, and shitty, yes, but it doesn't mention any eucalyptus trees or dogs named Bluey.

Also, you see when he puts his hat on at the end, even though he's sitting in a comfy chair in an air-conditioned office? That's how you know he's talking to a battler.

Can you imagine 20-30 crocodiles up on a transparent roof?

It's amusing that bush poetry sounds like something George W Bush would write.

unimaginatively rhymed

Isn't that a hallmark of bush poetry?

Isn't that a hallmark of bush poetry?

It is, yes.

Aha... just saw that 'but'. Carry on.

Bob Katter campaigned with his rhymes,
But pompom was confused:
"But bush poetry is hallmarked with word crimes!"
Our tom, he thought and mused.

Then from under the gum tree wolof called:
"It is, yes" he confirmed.
"Carry on" pompom then did drawl,
And Bluey just sat and squirmed.

And yet, I must admit that if say, Bob Katter and Wilson Tuckey were both on fire, I'd probably piss on Katter.

Noel Pearson seems to think reasonably well of Katter, for whatever that's worth.

I'd happily piss on Katter, even if neither he nor Tuckey were on fire.

Yeah, I heard a story that after the cyclone up there a few years back, Katter was driving up and down the streets of Innisfail ferrying people to hospital. Definately the kind of guy who may deserve some respect in the local community, and whose ideology probably fits the majority of people he represents. Maybe we just need to slice off that piece of Queensland and set it afloat.

No dogs, but a couple of dog whistles. Does that count?

I wonder if he's referencing these ads?

You fucking fuckers have forced me to link to the poetry of John Laws by way of retaliation.

Oh God that's even worse than I expected Ritchie. That's beyond counter-reprisal, that's the Big Red Button of poetry.

I get the impression he's going to stop cyclones and pick fruit down mines so he's got my vote.

John Laws got his poetry album sponsored by Bradford Insulation?

"Bob Katter". Heh. Really, who comes up with this stuff? Frigging hilarious.

Dear Australia,

Congratulations on your new George W. Bush. Hope you enjoy it.

Love,

Me

P.S. I do like that leather bag he has.

I have story about meeting Bob Katter in a servo, but I won't repeat it here in case I'm sued. The punchline is "John Laws in a bad hat?"

Noel Pearson seems to think reasonably well of Katter, for whatever that's worth.

Are we allowed to express a value in third world currencies?

Last Thoughts on Woody Guthrie?

Not sure what you're getting at here, but I actually quite like his propaganda work on behalf of the New Deal. I mean, I grew up on it, and only later learned that songs like The Big Grand Coulee Dam were not just him exulting in the glories of engineering achievement, but were bankrolled by the US government.
