Marnie is the sweetest. I love hookbills. Since birds are the last descendants of dinosaurs, I've often wondered if there was a species of dinosaur that was as good a mimic and as affable as a parrot. I'd like to think so.

I wish I could have a bird, but in my experience, every moment of bird affection is paid for in neighbor-appalling squawks and triangle-shaped bites on your hand.

My wife and I came across this last night and watched every single one of the videos. Marnie is so CUTE!

My dog would eat the face off that bunny. And my cat would eat the face off the bird.

The parrot keeps asking the bunny howyadoin? click! PEEKABO! click trying to engage it...and the bunny remains aloof until it moved in oh him.

I just wonder what Marnie thought of the rabbit, it has a "face", it sometimes moves, the owners are cooing over it ....but it's not talking to me.

I dunno, LoudMusic. My parents, for one, keep their parrot locked up so he can't get to the other pets.

Whoa, I just got lost down a rabbit-hole of parrot videos and couldn't remember how I'd gotten there. I love talking birds. (mrs ozzy does not. She did not appreciate the 15 minutes of bird-talk.)

Marnie inspired a couple excellent comics at the excellent Three Word Phrase: President Bird and President Bird 2.

I hope they enjoy their dinner with a dose of Chlamydia psittaci.

If you were to translate the early courtship of DrLith and MrDrLith into parrotese, it would pretty much go like this:

What'r' you doing?
You're so cute!
WHEEEEEE!

I am not the only one expecting a real bunny.

I kept waiting for the bird to rip the bunnies head off but it never did.

LoudMusic, other than proving your a Real Man with Real Manly Pets, ... who cares?

I'm pretty certain that dinner was for the other birds. Either that or those people eat a whole bunch of the same thing out of little, odd-shaped bowls.

don't judge, sometimes it's more about presentation.

This video of a raven talking was posted on reddit and I have to admit I didn't know they could do that. (I always assumed that the whole 'nevermore' thing was metaphorical.)

That parrot near the end appeared to realize the rabbit was dead. That had to have been pretty sad.

While not typical, cats & birds can interact. One day our bird was sitting on the mantle of the fireplace and our cat -- who's favorite thing to do was watch the bird -- started to walk up behind the bird. And where previously the bird had only mimicked our speech back to us, regardless of the situation, this time the bird -- just as the cat was slowly reaching out his paw to touch the bird's tailfeathers -- said "No bite!".

Oh my god, it sounds like a Speak 'n' Spell. THAT IS CORRECT.

I have had budgies for most of my life and this has happened over the years with different birds. We went through three "budgie buddies" with one pair of budgies...and had to treat it as real or the birds would get upset. It couldn't be laid down on the coffee table or anything like that. The first one they broke when they pushed it off the cage, the second one my husband sat on, and the third one has outlived the budgies. They never got tired of bashing this poor fake bird around and trying to peck its eyes out or nibble at the beak to regurgitate with it. I realize this sounds really out there, but it's just how the birds reacted. There was something fascinating about watching them try to decide if it was real or not - it has a little speaker that makes a chirpy noise - so they couldn't quite wrap their little pea brains around it.

But, having said that, whenever I need a boost at work, I watch this video. It's so adorable :-)
