We Make Carpets

You sure 'bout that?

Those were really cool; I was disappointed to se they were temporary. They need to make a Lego carpet in honor of the parents of young children everywhere.

Right. Because stepping on a toy solider is so luxurious. I think the only thing more fun than stepping on a toy soldier is stepping on a stray lego.

Dammit, _Lasar, you beat me to a Lebowski joke. This aggression will not stand.

The people of 'We Make Carpets' are apparently unfamiliar with the word 'mosaic'.

Snark aside, some of those are pretty cool.

naw... I agree..not carpets...

Someone, for some reason, felt that they could get more attention by calling hanging artwork made with odd stuff "carpets"...

Sort of a stunt thing to do.

during the dutch design week 2009 We Make Carpets made their first carpet. forest carpet.

And then they just repeated the concept using different stuff.

"What if we make one this time using plastic forks?"

Puff, puff, pass.

"Plastic forks?" puff, puff, "what about plastic toy soldiers?"

fantodstic, I love you, but sooner or later, you're going to have to face the fact you're a goddamn moron.

Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man.

Was I the only one who clicked on the first link expecting some kind of cooked pasta disaster? No? Oh.

I came across this site a few days ago and was tempted to post it here, and then I thought, nah, MeFites are just gonna rag on the fact that they're not really carpets, etc. And then I thought, you know, they'd be kinda right, wouldn't they? And then I thought, but they might still appreciate it as artwork. And then I thought, there's still gonna be a lot of "mehs" and "blehs" though. And then I thought, aww, come on, the BandAid one is kinda cool. And then I thought, nah, the sauce is just too weak for MeFi. And then I thought, okay, just bookmark it and think about it. And then I thought, okay, but it's probably not worth it. And then I thought, whatever.

Thanks for taking the pressure off, Xurando!

Clearly the reason they call them carpets despite not being functional carpets is that use traditional carpet designs.

Alternative material mandalas, sweet. Can we get some footage of their karmically cleansing destruction as well?

has an Andy Goldsworthy-esque feeling to them. am impressed with not just with this carpet but the dilapidated building behind it. it looks like an art installation made out of abandoned buildings.

I thought these were fun. I chuckled a few times, esp. the band-aid wall carpet.

How hard would it be to encase these designs in an inch or so of Lucite? Because I need a new floor and some of these would be AWESOME.

I'm thinking that making a small wall-hanging pasta carpet for the kitchen would be a great art project with the kids. Glad you posted this.

Is it wrong that I want to pee on that pasta carpet?

This reminds me of the scene in Pink Floyd: The Wall where Pink, in the middle of his breakdown, carefully arranges all the small objects in his hotel room across the floor.

I, er, don't have anything else to say about it, but I always enjoyed that bit.
