I was going to post this in another thread, but it's probably better here. I'm not sure who did the original song, but DJ Shadow threw it into a mix a couple of years ago. It's worth hearing if you haven't.

Ug, I have such respect for Dr King, didn't realize this FPP was some sort of post-modern hipster take on his "I have a dream" speech.

You can easilly tell what's hipster in how close to an Urban Outfitters knockoff it is. Or, like, whatever.

And, actually, now that I've watched the video: That's just the payoff of the bit. Whoever made the video chopped off the setup wherein it is explained what's going on, and other examples are proffered, and it is clear that the piss is being taken out of Google and Google alone. The setup is not optional. Boo, YouTube hack. Hiss.

And playing the audio over actual footage of MLK? No. No.

You don't do that to Dr. King, and you don't do that to Mr. Tompkins.

Sys Rq: "And playing the audio over actual footage of MLK? No. No."

This. In the bit, the "I Have a Dream" speech is used as go-to work of American oratory with which your audience will be at least somewhat familiar - leading to "thank you for oppression" as a big pay off.

My favorite MLK quotes:

"All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence."

"All progress is precarious, and the solution of one problem brings us face to face with another problem."

"Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase."
