Apparently, he's alive and well

Phil Agre seems to be OK, but keeping a low profile. There was an entry a while back, about the disappearance of Phil Agre. While looking for something else, I found this. Phil is an inspiration and I am glad he is still among us and wish him well.

Ummm . . . Those of us guiding the search for Phil have more detailed information about the interaction between the officer and Phil that is not being made public. The information we did receive gave us no evidence that he is actually "safe". Therefore we are continuing to search for him."

This is just all around weird. He didn't notify anyone of his whereabouts? Family? Friends? The neighbor's macaw?

Yeah, this was reported here some time ago, but it seems his friends still aren't in contact.

I remember looking forward to receiving whatever new nugget of interest Phil had turned up appearing on the Red Rock Eater mailing list. It was like getting metafilter posts in your mail before there was metafilter (at least before I had discovered metafilter).

I hope Phil knows that he was greatly appreciated by many of us, even if he prefers to remain out of contact for the moment.

That's a year old ...

Anyway, like many people I know only online, I don't know how to pronounce hi name. Is it like a-ger or ah-gray or something else?

Yeah, that link is from Jan 2010, not 2011. If you aren't an actual friend or relative, and not just someone who once took a class from him or read his newsletter, it's probably best to hope he's well but let him be.
