Carlo Bergonzi was one of the 20th century's greatest operatic tenors Bergonzi's reputation was one of the great (if not THE) Verdian tenor of mid-late 20th century opera.
Here is an outstanding performance by Begonzi, of "Quando le sere al placido" from Verdi's opera, "Luiza Miller"; Bergonzi is in his late 50's in this performance; here is Bergonzi singing the same aria at 70 (in 1996) - an amazing performance for that age! [if you don't know this aria, let it develop - it's one of the most lyrical and dramatic in all of Verdi's work)
In addition to a prodigious career in the opera, Bergonzi was also a great singer of Italian art songs
Here is Bergonzi singing Paulo Tosti's gorgeous and dramatic "L'Alba Separa Dalla Luce L'Ombra". (Tosti wrote some amazing songs).
Here is Bergonzi's tender rendition of Tosti's amazingly lyrical "Chanson de l'adieau"
Bergonzi singing the ever lyrical "Tristezze" (after Chopin)
Bergonzi singing the Neopolitan song "Non ti Scordar Ti me" (do not forget me)
Bergonzi singing Giuseppe Pietri's dramatic and beautiful, little known aria "io conosco un giardino" (from the Operetta "Maristella")
Bergonzi singing Donizetti's "Una Furtiva Lagrima" from Umberto Giordano's opera L'Elisir d'Amore,
Bergonzi singing the aria "Come un bel dì di maggio" from the opera Andrea Chénier) (outstanding!)
Here is a young Bergonzi singing Verdi's "Celeste Aida"
Bergonzi singing Puccini's " Che gelida manina!" from the opera La Bohème
Bergonzi singing the great Neopolitan tragic love song Core N'gratto, written by Salvatore Cardillo

In all, Bergonzi was one of the truly great opera tenors; his music lives on.
