Irin Carmon on unsuccessful efforts to publish a story later broken by Ronan Farrow (previously) a about CBS leadership sexual harassment allegations.
“The system,” I said from the stage, “is still powerful men getting stories killed that I believe will one day see the light of day.”
Carmon and her fellow reporter had their story killed by gutless Washington Post Executive Editor Marty Baron, but without the work they did I don't think Farrow's story could have existed.
And now we'll see whether Baron will long survive the revelations of this piece.
I doubt it very much – and I certainly hope not.

I mean, I'm sort of left shaking my head at that, in and of itself.
The whole way this story was blocked over and over is utterly not surprising. Controlling a newspaper means you get to try to make choices. Hell, there's a series of scandals involving the family that owns the local paper in Spokane which have gone mostly not in their record, but the local independent paper has done in-depth reporting on which is severely damning, like, every single fucking scandal, they are the bad guys.
Yay people who run newspapers!
