All I Want for Christmas is ... Bootie Mashup. The song you're going to hear 50,000 times this next month anyway, mashed up 41 times with other different songs.

The Quiet Riot mashup is *chef's kiss*.

I had lost track of these during the pandemic and forgotten all about them. Now I need to listen to all my old Bootie mashups again.

I have a 'Best of Bootie' album from 2016 (quite possibly because of this FPP?) and listen to tracks from it regularly, and yet did not keep up with them.

So: many thanks for this post! I plan to approach the Mariah album with caution, but it looks like I have a few years to catch up on!

Not Mariah Carey related in any way, but May Kasahara, if you liked the Quiet Riot mashup, you'll probably enjoy this too.

Mashups always bring me back to this thought: "vs." in the context of mashups seems counterintuitive. Isn't the point of mashups to illustrate how the music of two or more artists blends well? "Vs." to me implies some kind of adversarial relationship between all the mashup parts.

Now off to listen to it.

I kinda miss Bootie after following them at (best of) SF's DNA Lounge when it was streaming-only in 2020. This is my preserve, marmalade, casserole pot of yeast products and for sure a custard-related citrus fruit spread.

Regarding "vs.", the way I think of it is that the delight of a mashup can come from the contrast between the juxtaposed elements as much as their similarity. Versus means "against", too, and music has things like 4-against-3 polyrhythms. The mashup exists in the interplay between the components, much like a sports match exists in the interplay between the competitors; if one side didn't show up, you wouldn't have a game, or even half of a game.
