The following message is for workers from the planet BARBARBARA currently stationed on EDITÉ-FRIGNIM or "EARTH." It's by Peter Serafinowicz, and it involves our fantastic plans to construct human replicas and Eiffel Towers. Now, stand by for our fantastic leader, ARPOOVIAN SHEBBER-SHENTY!

I was sure I first saw this video linked from Metafilter, but a search didn't reveal its post. I had figured that it probably got hit by an account wipe. Which would have meant that it's no longer a double, thus there was no reason not to post it again!

But... on preview, the old post did turn up, from EXISTENZ IS PAUSED here. Thanks, wild E.I.P.!

So, this is a double, but it's a double after eleven years, so I'm posting it under the recently relaxed attitudes towards ancient doubles. It's another classic by Peter Serafinowicz, and it's been lodged in my brain since I first saw it. I still often can't resist playing it at MST Club.

Ah, I noticed that my use of the tag "EditΓ©-Frignim" didn't go through when made the post! I don't know if it was the hyphen or the accent over the 'e.' It did let me add the post was made.

I call fake. Everyone knows that word is pronounced "missy-on"

In a lesser world, Peter Serafinowicz would have been relegated to doing funny voices in children's cartoons but in this one he's roamed free to do weird shit like this.

My favorite thing about this video is how The Visitors (apparently their official name) walk the line between malevolent, incompetent and ridiculous. The Tories pose a greater threat than they do.

And Arpoovian Shebber-Shenty is like a Z-tier Doctor Who villain. They don't have mind-control powers, or the ability to absorb people's bodies, or laser guns, or inexplicable ways to destroy you that somehow have to do with whether you can see them or some other such shit. Naw, Arpoovie (as their friends call them) is mostly into organization and social skills. The Doctor knows what they're up to, but knows they haven't a fetid pair of dingo's kidneys of ever being successful, so Doc focuses their efforts on the Cyberdaleksilurianwhatevermen while The Visitors have trouble making payroll.

I dunno. That's an awful lot of human collaborators who were electrocuted.

I do like rubbish villains though. They're so much fun to watch when their plans fall apart be it because of the incompetence of their henchmen, the unrealistic nature of their plans from the beginning, or deliberate self-sabotage because they know deep in their hearts that the fun is in scheming to take over the world and actually running it would be kind of a drag.

I also like anti-villainy. Either my demands are met or I will commission an environmental impact survey and meet with various local stakeholders and begin planning to BUILD A BRIDGE THAT I WILL FINANCE MYSELF AND CONSTRUCT USING UNION LABOR! Mwahahahahahaha.

Will nobody stand up and save us from this terrible threat?!?!

Upon completion of the viewing ritual, am I supposed to submit myself for electrocution?
posted by JustSayNoDawg at 10:14 AM on June 27 [1 favorite]

Yes. You must immediately report to your nearest electrocution station and submit yourself for electrocution.

Your nearest electrocution station is conveniently located deep within the core of the planet.

Remember: The penalty for not submitting yourself for electrocution is electrocution.

Peter Serafinowicz's masterful "50 impressions in 2 minutes" lives rent free in my head forever.

Electrocuting everyone is part of their massive incompetence. These are people who were willing to work with them. If you just zap them all, you both don't have them around to help you any more, and you're going to find it much harder to find more. Arpoovian Shebber-Shenty should think their methods through a bit more, I think.
