A quarter of a century after its final season, Homicide: Life on the Streets will finally be available on streaming (via Peacock). Article includes an interview with showrunner Tom Fontana about his memories of filming the show, the hassles with music rights, and speculation about a reboot (please god, no).

There's a case to be made that the Wire, Homicide and Law and Order are all in the same universe.

That would be one amazing streaming channel, if they could interweave them chronologically or something.

are all in the same universe.

Or all in the same snowglobe, if you will...

Does that make Brooklyn Nine-Nine part of the extended universe, RIP Andre Braugher?

Anyway, this is a great get for Peacock

Those first couple of seasons before they tried to pretty it up were some of the best TV. The box scenes in seaons 1, straight from the book, are so amazing. Although having said that, the episode that always sticks in my mind is from season 6 - Subway with Vincent D'Onofiro.

The ending... let's not talk about that shall we?

My brother and I loved D'Onofrio in Men in Black and spent months (years??) doing the Edgar voice at each other in any possible situation. This episode came out only a few months later, on my 12th birthday actually. The way my mom (a regular Homicide watcher) SCREAMED at us from her bedroom "KIDS, EDGAR IS ON TV! HURRY!!!!" and we bolted in then all sat and watched the episode, rapt.

I just this morning bought a month of Peacock so I could stream the Olympics; guess I'll be extending my subscription a little farther.

When I saw Melissa Leo in Twin Pines, I knew it would be great.

I did a rewatch about 4 months ago and was still impressed.

speaking of Edgar suits, Siobhan Fallon Hogan also did a great job in both seasons of Twin Pines.

"egger suit'

Homicide is worth watching just to watch Ned Beatty dance.

I almost never watch a series if I haven't seen (or can't see) it from the beginning. (For you young folks out there, you used to have to wait for reruns!) I started watching H:LOT midway through the first season. It launched in January, so this must have been late March. I was transfixed. Right now, just drewbage1847's reference to the D'Onofrio episode, and I can't remember it as if I had it muted on the TV in front of me now. Pembleton looking through the bars of his baby's crib. Giardello speaking Italian. Meldrick Lewis! Steve Croscetti! Bayliss. Melissa Leo as Kay Howard!

This show so captured my imagination that when I first visited Baltimore and was asked where I wanted to go, all I cared about was Fells Point and seeing where the exteriors were shot. I am so excited about this!

When my wife needed specialized surgery at Johns Hopkins (which came out fine, thank God), we took an extra day to tour and I made a point of exploring Fells Point precisely out of my love for HLOTS. To get to spend hours and hours with those wonderful characters again will be such a treat!
