"[U]nhumans oppose everything that makes up humanity. As they are opposed to humanity itself, they place themselves outside of the category completely....they rob and they kill...They don't believe what they say. They don't care about winning debates. They don't even want equality. They just want an excuse to destroy everything. They want an excuse to destroy you." So begins Unhumans, an Amazon best-seller by Jack Posobiec. Cover blurbs lauding the book are by J.D. Vance, Donald Trump, Jr. and Michael T. Flynn.

Dehumanization is Stage 4 of the 10 stages of genocide.

They don't care about winning debates? Sure. Yes, we're the ones who aren't using logic. They kill? That's from the gun toting war-loving side, no? Great. I realize logic isn't what they're going for, but goodness they are inconsistent as fuck all.

Far-right speaker Jack Posobiec tells attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference his goal: To "replace" democracy (CNN, Feb. 23, 2024)

Jack Posobiec is a pro-Trump conspiracy theorist and attention-seeking MAGA troll with white supremacist ties (MediaMatters.org)

The Southern Poverty Law Center's page for Posobiec: This investigation has found that Posobiec — a Trump favorite — has collaborated with white supremacists, neo-fascists and antisemites for years, while producing propaganda that Trump and his inner circle have publicly celebrated. “Jack Posobiec’s extensive ties to white supremacists should serve as a wake-up call for anyone who hasn’t made the connection between Trump’s MAGA movement and hate,” said Michael Edison Hayden, the SPLC senior investigative reporter who uncovered the story about Posobiec and his ties to white supremacy and the White House.

A few bits of the NYT coverage of this story jumped out at me yesterday:

One of their book’s heroes is the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco, who overthrew the democratic Second Spanish Republic in the country’s 1930s civil war. The authors call him a “great man of history” and compare him to George Washington. They quote him on what doesn’t work against the unhuman threat: “We do not believe in government through the voting booth. The Spanish national will was never freely expressed through the ballot box...

.. “Unhumans” lauds Augusto Pinochet, leader of the Chilean military junta who led a coup against Salvador Allende’s elected government in 1973..

Dehumanization is Stage 4 of the 10 stages of genocide.

I have been saying for 20 years now that the nutball right (which has now taken over the Republican Party) has been preparing a genocide ala Rwanda. I was surprised when they went to full on Nazi shit with Trump. And make no mistake, it is full on Nazi shit. Straight out of Hitler's playbook.

Thankfully, the opposition in the US is not quite as obsessed with ideological purity as the parties in 1930s Germany, so they're having a harder time outright seizing power. Worryingly, however, there are many police departments that are all too happy to stand by while the brown shirts wreck shit because they are of the belief that only the wingnuts can "fix the country" (or are Nazis themselves), on the so far thankfully rare occasions the brown shirts bother to get off their couch.

It's actually pretty fucking eerie how close the wingnuts are sticking to the Nazi playbook in the broad strokes.

Shutting them down wouldn't actually be that hard if only somebody could figure out a way to chisel the Christofascist milleniarians from the Nazifascists. The Christofascists aren't actually in to all that Nazi shit, they just don't care because they think they'll be able to bring about the rapture before it matters. As far as they're concerned we're right on the brink as it is. They just need to give Iran and Israel a little push to start exchanging nukes and it'll be done, in their estimation. This is why they are stoked about Israel genociding the Palestinians and are doing everything in their power to keep it going (like making aid to Ukraine contingent on aid to Israel).

Franco only had one, the other was lost to injury. Hitler also had only one, and so did Mao. Both suffered from cryptorchidism, and I think there’s a case to be made that they both displayed signs of an anti-NMDA receptor like derangement syndrome because the undescended testicle often becomes cancerous, testicular cancers are often teratomas, which share antigens with other tissues in the body, including and especially the CNS, and those shared antigens cause the other tissues in the body to be attacked when the immune system attacks the tumor, giving rise to a psychosis when the shared antigens are in certain parts of the brain.

leftists..."progressives"...we will call them the unhumans.

The Republicans have long trafficked in this kind of ridiculous hyperbole. Jeanine Pirro called Democrats "DEMON RATS" in a memorable Fox News piece back in 2018. Ann Coulter wrote a series of books about Democrats with names like "Slander," "Godless" and (hilariously, in context of January 6th) "Treason." As was said earlier: every accusation is a confession.

Weird doesn't even begin to cover it. Sometimes I wonder what Metafilter's vanished conservative brigade thinks about the Republicans' meltdown. Did dios "hold his nose" and vote for Trump?
posted by JHarris at 1:01 AM on August 8 [20 favorites]

This is interesting, I've been thinking a lot about the Franco regime recently. Obviously, Trump himself is more like Mussolini or Hitler, Franco was a quieter person. But there is something about the Opus Dei connection and maybe also about a fascist regime that survived far into the second half of the 20th century and was in many ways normalized by a lot of people.
It would make sense if people who are facsist-leaning today would rather seek inspiration in a country where the dictator lived to a comfortable old age and lots of people described the country as well-run.
Weirdly, even as a child I didn't like authoritarian regimes. I went once with my mum to Ibiza for a week, and after that I always noped out. Since my best friend was Spanish, that was a lot of noping, but something made me feel uncomfortable.
I wonder how many of these hard right "thinkers" went to Spain during Franco and loved it there.

ghoul (noun)

1. An evil spirit or demon in Muslim folklore believed to plunder graves and feed on corpses.
2. A grave robber.
3. One who delights in the revolting, morbid, or loathsome.

Dawn’s Early Light tells in many ways a familiar conservative story—the brain trust at the Heritage Foundation, as it happens, doesn’t have an especially new or compelling narrative to offer. America is in decline, apparently, due to “pantsuited girlboss advertising executives, Skittle-haired they/them activists, soy-faced pajama-clad work-from-home HR apparatchiks, Adderall-addicted dog mom diversity consultants, nasally voiced Ivy League regulatory lawyers, obese George Soros-funded police abolitionist district attorneys, [and] hipster trust fund socialists.” These are some of the “least impressive people in the history of the world,” though it’s actually not their fault; they are all secretly controlled by what Roberts calls the “Uniparty,” which he never quite explicitly defines but is a loose, fungible cabal of neoliberals, corporate bureaucrats, hedge-fund managers, public school unions, antifa activists, and George Soros.
I am prepared to bet Franco’s remaining nut that Roberts or somebody else in his circle has called it the “Jewniparty” at least once.
