"With a Boob Out" is the new music video from Australian folk music singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alana Wilkinson.
[Despite the title and the use of the word "boob" this post is entirely SFW]
Wilkinson's debut album Half-Time Oranges comes out soon and additional tracks are available for preview on Bandcamp.
The internet is loaded with funny social media people making little songs and some of those are very nice. This, however, isn't a 30 second lark delivered in portrait mode for TikTok clicks. While again, some of those are great, this is not that. This is a proper music video for a studio-recorded song by a terrific singer-songwriter having a laugh. It's about being a mother with an occasionally wobbly sense of engagement with her surrounding world. The melody would probably get stuck in your head even if were not very, very funny. But it is. It definitely is.

It's a legitimately terrific melody and performance. That would be enough. But the fact that it's also hilarious but sincere about how sometimes being a mom means your mind is working "at the speed of a marshmallow" is even better.
I do think a lot of moms present and past are going to love the hell out of this song.

I hated, hated, hated breastfeeding and am so glad those days are over so I'm definitely not in the target audience for an "aren't these indignities sort of charming? don't you kinda cherish them?" song (no, and no), but yes indeed, my mom group chat would have been obsessed with this song back when I was still going to mom group.

This is the kind of sincere, sunny, mostly positive stuff about women that MeFi would have melted the fuck down over even ten years ago.

I am not a mother (and happy to not be one) but this is a delight. I love her and I want to hang out with her.

Speaking as a non mom (and it's kinda impossible for me to be one, 'cause I'm a guy and all, but I am a parent) I loved this.

Aw, this was great. My youngest is nearly 3 now, and I’m 2 years past breastfeeding, but my what a clusterfuck disaster era that was in my life. I don’t miss breastfeeding, but I am so glad for my baby.

Watching the kids destroy the cake that she worked so hard on is a hell of a metaphor.

A delight, and a great partner to this other Australian song about breastfeeding
