NYTimes: It’s hard to see through the water, and too easy to find trash, but divers are finding joy in exploring New York. Since 1971, the New York City-based scuba diving club Big Apple Divers, has been plunging into the coastal waters, uncovering shipwrecks and an array of aquatic creatures. (archive)

the dive shop in Brooklyn is great because they also refill the co2 tank for my seltzer carbonator for real cheap.

I like reading about oyster restoration. I also recommend this book on the co-history of NYC and oysters.

Aw, this is so cool. If I still lived on that side of the pond, I think I'd get PADI certified just to join them, especially the Friends Of Oysters.
