There’s a body part in my floor part 3

Several months ago, a dentist visited his parents’ new house for the first time and immediately spotted what looked like a human jawbone in the travertine tile (previously). A few emails later, it is positively identified as a probable hominid fossil and they are connected with appropriate researcher (subsequently). The tile has been removed safely and is undergoing further examination. Some additional tiles with fossil remnants of interest have also been spotted. The entire saga with the additional photos has now been compiled at the Best of Redditor Updates subreddit. image gallery (nb stray canine in corner). Consider this your alert to go do a quick visual check of any stone tiles you live near.

The Getty Center in LA is largely clad in travertine and I've heard they specifically examined the panels and tiles they used so that pieces with embedded fossils would be installed closer to eye level.

Paleourbana is an old-school blog documenting fossils in urban settings (building stones, pavements etc) and has an interactive map.

I need to visit the Getty Center. I'm a big fan of successful things that get started out of spite for people that deserve it. "Fuck that cheap asshole, I'm going to use his money in all the ways he'd have hated."
