A Run to Remember

It’s still not clear to me whether the person or persons who run this contest is one of the people associated with the Corridor Crew YT channel. Is it one of the people who show up in the “VFX Artists React” series, or one of the ones who aren’t on camera as much? Am I only imagining the connection?

Yes. Youtube publisher @pwnisher is Clinton Jones who sat in for 24 episodes of Corridor Crew's VFX Artists React.

I think this one was let down just a little by the base animation of the character— it didn't really feel like it had any weight to it. I know there was more 'you can tweak this animation' freedom then usual, but I think that of the immense talent these submissions all demonstrate, generally their strengths are weighted more on the visual/style aspects then the nuances of tweaking the animation.

I think the strongest entries were the more abstract/cartoony ones, it helped break out of that uncanny valley feeling that I got. Amazing as always though. The mouse running around the kitchen table-- that's simply incredible for the time given. (My fave was the girl getting pulled/twirled through the airport security by her luggage!)

I thought that this one wasn't as good/imaginative as previous ones. A couple just seemed to be people running , without really doing anything interesting. For me, the most memorable of the group was the werewolf.

I always like to watch these compilations, but the balance has been more and more toward "auditioning for a hyperrealistic fighting game". Some of that is fine, but I appreciate the ones that try wildly different animation styles. Or even, you know, bright colors.

It also bugs me that very few of the animators use a female main character. It feels like there are more animals and robots than human women.

What seems to have happened is that as this competition has gotten more famous, it has gotten more and larger sponsors. And those sponsors want animations that use and showcase the abilities of their product. Those products are generally character-related whether mocap/rigging or expressions or styling.
