Also, I've been thinking about reading Lore Olympus, because it has a fairly unique and appealing style (oh, look previously), but there seems to be an awful lot of it....

I'm a little shocked to see Ed Piskor on the short list for "Best Cartoonist."
Sadly, I'm not. I'm glad that the voters/judges for this gave the award to someone more deserving.

I am mildly amused by the idea of a Batman / Scooby-Doo crossover involving time travel.
I was also mildly surprised, given how long it has been since I had any familiarity with what was going on in comics, to recognize a couple of names on the list. Jeff Smith and Daniel Clowes have been making comics since the days when I shared an apartment with a comics fan after college, back in the 90s. Especially in a creative field, that's some serious career longevity and I'm impressed that anyone from that era is still producing work that their peers find relevant and notable.

The Hunger And The Dusk has been great so far. It's G. Willow Wilson's new venture, and it's basically action AND politics AND culture clash AND sexy orcs. Recommended.

Glad to see Stan Sakai get another award. He has, deservedly, won many such over his long career.
If you have never read Usagi Yojimbo, you have a wonderful experience in store.

NotN, I've had Clowes on my radar since the eighties, when he did Lloyd Llewellyn for Fantagraphics, and while I run hot and cold on his stuff, Ghost World is still a big favorite, and Monica is being compared to that, so I'll have to take a look.

I am curious about this - who makes the short list, and who votes for the winner? The Ed Piskor nomination is a huge red flag. But as far as I can tell, Jeff Smith hasn't put out a book since 2022 so is this a best of the year award, or a life time award?
