me3dia, I couldn't find any mention of Poul Beckmann or his photography in the National Geographic site, but I did find several beetle related features with photographs. The National Geographic photography is by David Hawks.

Yes these are great photos of beautiful creatures, thanks for posting this monju_bosatsu .
I've seen decorative pieces made by native Americans from the wing covers of metalic wood boring beetles.
