Oh god... They're only giving the Brothers Quay more tools with which to carry out their devious agenda.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must get back to After Effects, where I am currently mastering the art of the Light Sweep.

Animation: Incredible. Subtlety of movement, delicacy of expression, smoothness, etc. The eyes in particular were incredible--I thought they must have used a real human and masked out the rest somehow at first.
The story: Meh.
The skin: DO NOT WANT

Yes hello, a dumbass here. They ARE human eyes. I somehow watched the entire move AND making of and then neglected to follow the first link.

It's interesting to me how much more lifelike this character is than the characters in Beowulf.

That is incredibly impressive.

I also find it funny to call their process "novel." I thought maybe they had some mechanical contraption or wrote some new software. Nope. They just rotoscoped it, painstakingly, for 4 goddamn years straight.

still, crazy impressive.

I was lucky enough to not only get this for a Christmas present but when my SO picked it up for me at the NFB offices, one of the animators was actually there, picking up a copy to send to Sundance, so he spoke to him briefly and got me an autographed copy. :) It was a wonderfully haunting short.

Awesome. Been meaning to check this out ever since reading a great interview w/ the creators here.

Bloody great post Wolfdog./
Wonderful story, beautifully done.

Funny, I once dated a woman who resembles Madame. Funnier still, her name was Laurie too. Mind you, she was no shrinking violet. Same short hair, although really curly and same large eyes. Bet if I mentioned it to her the resemblance, she's slap me hard. I'll run it by her and see if she agrees, a big movie buff to boot, then duck.

One question I'd ask the creators, is how the hell does one support oneself putting in all those hours they mentioned in the interview with Michael Gullien @twitchfilm [a Great link pilibeen, thanks] and 4 years¿ That's quite the commitment.
